Frequently Asked Questions

What is a clubhouse?

The clubhouse model is based on the belief that members are partners in their own recovery, rather than merely the passive recipients of treatment, and that meaningful work and relationships are integral parts of their recovery. Members work side by side with staff to organize and administer, and success is dependent upon the degree to which members assume responsibility for themselves. All Clubhouses adhere to the set of International Clubhouse Standards.

Does Racine Friendship Clubhouse provide psychiatric treatment, including medication and therapy?

No. The Racine Friendship Clubhouse (RFC) approach to psychiatric rehabilitation is non-medical and community-based. There is no medical staff. RFC members are encouraged by staff and fellow members to comply with medications and to keep appointments with their doctors.

Why are Racine Friendship Clubhouse clients referred to as members?

The clubhouse model focuses on strengths rather than weaknesses and is based on the idea of equality between members and staff. Members are an integral, active part of the clubhouse. We feel that the word “member” reflects not only the voluntary nature of the clubhouse but also the ownership that members have in it. As Fountain House says, “The clubhouse exists for and because of its members.”

Am I eligible for membership at Racine Friendship Clubhouse?

To be eligible for membership you must:

  • Have consistent/reliable transportation
  • Be age 18 or over
  • Be in treatment for a mental health diagnosis such as Major Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia or Anxiety
  • Be clean and sober for at least 30 days
  • Be actively working toward recovery.

How do I become a member?

To schedule a tour of our program, please contact our staff at (262) 636-9393. After your tour, you will receive an application for membership form which you complete, and a referral form which your practitioner (psychologist, psychiatrist, therapist, case manager) will complete and return to Racine Friendship Clubhouse via fax (262) 636-9084 or mail. We must receive this form back from your practitioner. If qualified, staff will then schedule an orientation with you and you will become part of the Clubhouse family.

What are your business hours?
